New Utility EasyDMG Streamlines macOS DMG Installation Process

Developer Jeff Schumann released EasyDMG, a free macOS tool that automates the traditional DMG installation steps.

Jeff Schumann created EasyDMG to replace macOS's long-standing DMG installation dance with a single click. The free application, featuring a hamster mascot, installs itself using the same DMG method it aims to simplify, then can be set as the default opener for all DMG files. When a user opens a DMG, EasyDMG mounts the virtual disk, verifies the bundle, copies the app to the Applications folder, optionally deletes the original DMG, and finally reveals the new app in Finder.

It operates only during the installation, closes afterward, and contacts a server solely to check for updates. Users can adjust preferences, such as disabling automatic DMG deletion, suppressing Finder windows, or launching the installed app immediately, while warnings about unidentified developers can also be toggled. The tool provides a lightweight, privacy-focused alternative to the manual process.

Why it matters

It simplifies software installation on Macs, saving time and reducing user error.
