New vapor-phase method lets tandem solar cells be fabricated at reduced temperatures

Researchers have introduced a vaporization technique that enables the production of tandem solar cells using lower-temperature processes.

Scientists have developed a vaporization-based process that allows tandem solar cells to be assembled at temperatures lower than those used in conventional fabrication. By avoiding the need for high-heat treatments, the technique streamlines the manufacturing workflow and may reduce energy consumption and material stress. Experimental results indicate that the resulting devices maintain competitive power conversion efficiencies.

The approach could accelerate the commercialization of advanced multi-junction photovoltaics by making large-scale production more economical. The study builds on recent advances in thin-film deposition and highlights the potential for further optimization of low-temperature solar-cell architectures.
