A pair of New York state senators have filed a bill to make September 25 an official Dolly Parton Day, mirroring a tribute already in place in Tennessee. The proposal highlights the country music icon’s cultural impact and her philanthropic initiatives, notably the Imagination Library program that provides monthly books to more than 170,000 children across the state. Senator Erik Bottcher praised Parton’s support for workers, LGBTQ rights, and women’s empowerment, while Senator Jeremy Cooney emphasized the lasting benefits of her literacy efforts.
The measure comes after Governor Kathy Hochul directed the lighting of state landmarks in pink to commemorate Parton’s legacy. If passed, the designation would formally celebrate the artist’s contributions to New York’s communities.
