According to a final report shared with one outlet, the 2026 FIFA World Cup delivered $3.5 billion in total economic activity for the New York-New Jersey market, outpacing the pre-tournament projection of $3.3 billion. Direct expenditures of $1.9 billion rippled outward, generating $3.5 billion when indirect and induced effects were counted. Attendance figures show over 645,000 fans at the eight regional matches and an additional 626,300 non-local visitors at official fan events, together contributing $1.7 billion in spending.

The Host Committee, FIFA and partners added $286 million in operational costs, while the event spurred the creation of 27,424 jobs and $1.4 billion in labor income. Tax revenue returned to government coffers was $759.2 million, split between state and local ($414.2 million) and federal ($344.9 million) sources. Officials highlighted higher operational spending, stronger fan-event turnout and a larger share of international attendees as reasons for exceeding expectations, though detailed public-cost accounting remains incomplete.
