Newborn found dead on Menai Strait named Ceri as police seek mother

A newborn girl whose body was discovered on the Menai Strait has been identified as Ceri, while investigators continue to look for her mother.

North Wales Police received a report on September 27 that a newborn's body had been found on the Menai Strait near Bangor. A Home Office pathologist, Dr Brian Rodgers, performed an examination and indicated the infant may have been in the water for up to a few weeks. The baby has been given the name Ceri, and Superintendent Llinos Daves has appealed for information from dog walkers and residents who frequent the Ashley Fields area or have video of the Siliwen shoreline from the end of August onward.

A dedicated phone line and a Major Incident Public Portal have been set up for tips. Fiona Giraud of Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board urges any mother to contact a specialist support line, emphasizing compassion and confidentiality. Police continue to pursue all lines of inquiry to locate the mother.

Why it matters

Identifying the infant and locating the mother are crucial for a proper investigation and to provide needed support.
