Newcastle Pursues Lucas Bergvall as Tottenham Sets £50m Price Tag

Newcastle United remain keen on Tottenham midfielder Lucas Bergvall, while Spurs insist on a fee above £50 million after rejecting a £46 million offer.

Tottenham Hotspur have rebuffed Newcastle United’s attempt to acquire midfielder Lucas Bergvall, rejecting a proposal near £46 million and stating they will not consider offers below £50 million. Bergvall, a 20-year-old Swede who chose Spurs over Barcelona in 2024, recorded 45 appearances in his debut season and helped the club win the 2025 Europa League, but his involvement sharply declined toward the end of that campaign.

Seeking regular first-team football, he has informed Tottenham of his desire to leave, though he remains under contract until June 2031. Newcastle, still interested in bolstering their midfield, continue to track the “unstoppable” talent, while Nottingham Forest is also poised to submit a higher bid before the summer transfer deadline.

Why it matters

The negotiation could reshape midfield options for two Premier League clubs and affect the summer transfer market.
