Newcastle United secure defender Amar Dedic from Benfica for £30 million

Newcastle United announced the acquisition of Amar Dedic from Benfica for a fee reported around £30 million, signing him to a five-year deal. The defender completed his medical on Tyneside on Monday and highlighted the honour of joining the club on his birthday. Reuniting with manager Matthias Jaissle, with whom he won the Austrian league at Red Bull Salzburg in 2023, Dedic cited the familiar coaching relationship as a key factor.

The signing fills the vacancy left by veteran right-back Kieran Trippier, who departed for Wolves on a free transfer.
