Newly released documents link Saudi elite to funding of Al-Qaeda on 9/11 anniversary
At the 25th-anniversary ceremony for the September 11 attacks, families’ advocate Terry Strada said court filings now show Saudi Arabia helped finance Al-Qaeda.
A ceremony marking the 25th anniversary of the September 11 attacks in New York featured former presidents and a poignant speech by Terry Strada, who leads the 9/11 Families United group. Strada claimed that the victims’ lawsuit, now in its third decade with roughly 12,000 filings, has forced the U.S. government to disclose classified intelligence. Since December 2024, CIA and U.S. Treasury reports have been gradually added to the public record, revealing extensive Saudi financial support for Al-Qaeda.
The new evidence challenges the long-held belief that the terrorist organization operated independently of the Wahhabi kingdom. Strada warned that successive U.S. administrations have shielded Saudi interests despite this emerging proof. The revelations arrive as the court case continues in Manhattan.
Why it matters
The disclosures could reshape U.S. policy toward Saudi Arabia and influence ongoing legal accountability for 9/11 victims.
