Newlywed alleges severe dowry-related abuse and assault by husband and his family
A 24-year-old woman from Neendakara says her husband Nandu and his relatives subjected her to physical and psychological torture over dowry, both in Kerala and Saudi Arabia.
Anju, a 24-year-old from Neendakara, claims her husband Nandu and his parents inflicted repeated physical and mental violence after their marriage four months ago. The alleged abuse began shortly after the wedding when the husband’s family criticized the dowry she brought, leading to assaults such as kicking her abdomen, striking her head with a pressure cooker, and using household objects like stones and charger cables.
After Nandu left for Saudi Arabia, the cruelty reportedly intensified, including threats with a knife and forcing her to record degrading statements about herself. Anju was eventually brought back to Kerala, where she was hospitalized at Kollam District General Hospital and lodged a complaint. Chavara police have registered a case against Nandu and his parents and have started an investigation.
