Newport Beach mansion listed for $4.7 M with construction-site outlook

A $4.7 million home in Newport Beach’s Cliff Haven area is on the market, but its primary view is a large condo construction site.

A Newport Beach residence listed for $4.7 million is being promoted as a move-in-ready home in a coveted neighborhood, yet its most notable feature is an unobstructed view of an active condo construction site. The 1953 house spans over 3,500 sq ft on a 9,100-sq ft hillside parcel near 17th Street, close to local shops, beaches and the Castaways trails. The Zillow description highlights distant sights such as Fashion Island, Saddleback Mountain and the Castaways, but the present outlook consists of barren land and a backhoe loader.

MagnaFlow’s vice president of strategic partnerships, Jerry Zaiden, posted a video of the property on Instagram, prompting a wave of negative reactions. Users like Juliana Vittoria Kiesselbach and others mocked the price, noting cheaper alternatives elsewhere, and warned that future condo development could further diminish any remaining views.

Why it matters

The listing highlights how California’s housing market can price properties high despite limited appeal, reflecting broader affordability challenges.
