NFL streaming fees could total $1,400 annually, raising affordability concerns, says Activate CEO
Activate Consulting CEO Michael J. Wolf warned that watching every NFL game may cost fans about $1,400 a year, highlighting a major affordability problem.
Michael J. Wolf, co-founder and CEO of Activate Consulting, told one outlet that the cumulative expense for a fan to watch every NFL matchup could reach $1,400 annually, creating a significant affordability issue. While basic cable and an antenna deliver limited game coverage, a complete package demands subscriptions to several streaming services and the NFL Sunday Ticket. Wolf cited overall sports-league licensing fees of roughly $33 billion, with the NFL accounting for about one-third and expected to grow from $11 billion to nearly $20 billion.
He also pointed out the complexity of the broadcast lineup: Week 1 games appear on several outlets, Netflix, and Amazon Prime Video, making it difficult for fans to know where each contest will be shown. This multi-platform approach drives up costs and creates confusion for viewers seeking comprehensive coverage.
Why it matters
High costs and a confusing broadcast landscape may deter fans from fully engaging with the NFL.
