NHAI unveils OneTag to switch FASTag banks without replacing tags
The National Highways Authority of India introduced OneTag, a service on its Rajmargyatra app that lets users change the bank that issues their FASTag while keeping the same physical tag.
The National Highways Authority of India announced the launch of OneTag, a portability feature for FASTag users accessible via the Rajmargyatra mobile application. Users enter their vehicle registration, obtain a six-digit verification code from their existing bank, and can then choose a new issuer, completing required KYC and wallet setup. The physical FASTag remains attached to the vehicle, as the tag’s ID does not change, and the former issuer closes the old wallet, returning any unused balance after applicable deductions.
To prevent frequent switches, the system imposes a six-month cooling period before another porting is permitted. NHAI expects the service to reduce tag manufacturing and reissuance costs while giving motorists greater flexibility in selecting banks and service providers. The app also offers options to buy annual or local FASTag passes and provides access to the 1033 emergency helpline.
