Nigeria eyes expanded gas exports as Iran conflict tightens global markets
Minister of State for Petroleum Resources Ekperikpe Ekpo says the war involving the US, Israel and Iran is creating a chance for Nigeria to boost its gas output and supply Europe.
The conflict in Iran has strained worldwide natural-gas supplies, prompting Nigeria to pursue higher production levels. Ekpo outlined plans for a Nigeria-Morocco pipeline and a push to attract investors for new projects. The government also aims to lower domestic LPG prices and shift households away from firewood, charcoal and kerosene while cutting gas flaring. Twenty gas initiatives are slated for final investment decisions before 2030.
Why it matters
Nigeria’s push to expand gas exports could reshape energy supplies for Europe while affecting domestic fuel prices.
