Nightly strikes at Charleroi airport trigger weeks of flight cancellations

Air traffic controllers at Brussels South Charleroi airport announced a series of nightly strikes that will run until Saturday, 10 October, each night from 10 pm to 8 am. The action has already forced the cancellation of 66 scheduled flights over Thursday and Friday, hitting low-cost carriers such as Ryanair, Wizz Air, Volotea, Pegasus Airlines and Air Corsica. The UK Foreign Office advised passengers to follow local news and check with their airlines, also warning of a major demonstration in central Brussels on 9 October, though its impact on public transport is unclear.

Flights to and from Brussels Airport, the city’s primary hub, are not affected. Charleroi airport officials emphasized close monitoring of the dispute, urging travelers to rely on airline communications for specific flight information, and expressed hope for a swift resolution to the conflict involving Skeyes, the Belgian air-traffic control provider.
