Nighttime wildfire near El Peñoncillo in Torrox Costa brought under control

A blaze that ignited near the El Peñoncillo residential area in Torrox Costa early Tuesday was contained by morning.

In the early hours of Tuesday, a wildfire broke out in the scrub vegetation surrounding the El Peñoncillo urbanisation in Torrox Costa, near the Olée Torrox Costa Holiday Apartments. The fire moved uphill, prompting a joint response from the Provincial Fire Brigade of Malaga, with units from the Nerja and Velez-Malaga stations, and the regional forest fire service, Plan Infoca. A specialist fire engine and a forest-fire group were deployed to assist the provincial crews, which withdrew after the blaze was declared under control at 7:30 a.m. Infoca personnel continued to work at the site. Investigators have not yet determined the ignition source, and no details on burned area, property damage, or evacuations have been released.
