A gunman barricaded himself inside a house on Perry Street in Erie, Pennsylvania, and killed nine people before taking his own life.
Around 5 p.m. on Friday, officers were dispatched to a reported shooting at a home on the 700 block of Perry Street in Erie, Pennsylvania. Two women were found dead outside the house, and the suspect, wielding a handgun, fortified himself inside, prompting a SWAT standoff that involved several gunshots. Video later released showed the exchange inside the dwelling.
The gunman ultimately died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, and police entered to find nine victims throughout the home, including two children and a pregnant woman. Chief Rick Lorah declined to reveal details about the victims' connections to the shooter, describing the scene as one of the most heartbreaking his department has encountered. He confirmed there is no ongoing public threat and expressed condolences to the families.
