Nine fatalities reported in Upper East Side Legionnaires’ disease outbreak
The Legionnaires’ disease cluster on Manhattan’s Upper East Side has now caused nine deaths, overtaking last year’s Harlem outbreak.
Health officials announced that the Upper East Side outbreak has claimed nine lives, surpassing the seven deaths recorded in Harlem the previous year. Health Commissioner Alister Martin said two recent patients died and the source of the contamination has been removed. One individual remains in the hospital while the Department of Health continues monitoring the situation.
