Nishad Kumar clinches second gold and sets Asian Para Games high-jump record
Indian athlete Nishad Kumar won his second gold at the Asian Para Games 2026, breaking the T47 high-jump record with a 2.04m clearance.
Nishad Kumar made history at the Asian Para Games 2026 by winning gold in the men's high-jump T47 with a record-breaking 2.04m clearance, following his long-jump triumph of 7.11m the previous day. The double victory makes him the third Indian ever to claim two gold medals in one edition of the continental para-sport event, joining Ankur Dhama and armless archer Sheetal Devi from the 2023 Games in Hangzhou. Kumar, a two-time Paralympic silver medallist, added the high-jump title to an already impressive résumé that includes a world championship gold.
His success was highlighted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who praised the athlete’s versatility and determination. Born in Amb, Himachal Pradesh, Kumar overcame the loss of his right arm at age six to become a leading figure in para-athletics.
