Nissan to import additional China-built models alongside Navara Pro PHEV in Australia

Nissan Australia confirmed plans to bring more China-produced vehicles to the market, following the 2027 launch of the Navara Pro PHEV ute.

Nissan Australia announced that, beyond the 2027 debut of the Navara Pro PHEV plug-in hybrid ute, it is reviewing a suite of additional China-sourced vehicles for the Australian market. Steve Milette, head of Nissan Oceania, listed potential candidates such as the fully electric N7 large sedan, the mid-size NX7 plug-in hybrid SUV, the larger NX8 electric SUV, and a production version of the Terrano PHEV concept, all built by Nissan’s joint venture with Dongfeng.

He emphasized that each model will be assessed on its own business merits and may not all reach Australian showrooms. The N7 and NX8 are already available in China, the NX7 is expected later this year, and the Terrano PHEV is expected to appear in China by April 2027. Nissan joins other manufacturers like Mazda and Ford in sourcing Chinese-built models to stay competitive as the market shifts toward electrified vehicles. The company also plans to launch the Y63 Patrol SUV in early 2027.

Why it matters

The move shows Nissan expanding its Chinese-built lineup in Australia, reshaping competition in the local EV and hybrid market.
