NMDC launches ₹5,427 crore iron-ore processing hub with new pellet plant in Chhattisgarh
NMDC Ltd has commissioned its 2 MTPA pellet plant at Nagarnar, completing a ₹5,427 crore integrated project that connects a Bacheli processing plant to the Nagarnar steel complex via a 135-km slurry pipeline.
NMDC Ltd has officially started operations at its 2 million-tonne-per-year pellet plant in Nagarnar, the last component of a ₹5,427 crore integrated iron-ore venture in Chhattisgarh. The scheme links a new processing plant at Bacheli with the Nagarnar steel complex through a 135-kilometre slurry pipeline capable of moving 15 MTPA of concentrate. The pipeline, which traverses 61 villages in Bastar and Dantewada districts, is intended to curb road traffic and lessen dependence on railway transport.
By converting fines and slimes from the Bailadila mines into pellets, NMDC adds a higher-value product to its portfolio and supplies steel producers directly. The company says the commissioning strengthens its presence across the entire iron-ore value chain, from mining and beneficiation to pellet production. This development supports NMDC’s broader strategy to expand its iron-ore capacity to 100 million tonnes in the long run.
