Noida woman charged for alleged insults to Prime Minister during Delhi protest

Following a grievance lodged by Supreme Court advocate Smriti Singh, Noida police have lodged a zero-FIR against 25-year-old Ruchika Singh for allegedly uttering objectionable language toward Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the CJP protest at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar. Singh, identified as a salon employee and property owner in Lotus Zing society, Sector 150, was accused based on video clips presented by Singh. The complaint triggered charges under Sections 352, 353(1) and 356(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, addressing intentional insult, statements causing public mischief and defamation.

Initial inquiries revealed Singh resides with her family in Uncha Gaon, Faridabad, and that her Noida flat has remained locked for months. The investigating officer confirmed the matter’s transfer to Delhi Police for continued investigation. The incident underscores heightened sensitivities around political speech during high-profile protests.
