Nonbinary defendant accused of raping New Year's Eve date after bus altercation

The Old Bailey heard the case of Sab Cox, 26, who traveled from Birmingham to Islington to celebrate New Year’s Eve with a partner met on Bumble. During the return bus ride, Cox allegedly reacted violently to someone looking at the partner, punching a window. After arriving at the partner’s bedsit, Cox is accused of initiating non-consensual sex, ignoring repeated pleas to stop, and later calling the victim from Drayton Railway Station to “listen to this” before jumping onto the tracks.

The prosecution highlighted the victim’s account of confusion over Cox’s gender-related comments and the subsequent assault. Cox, now using male pronouns and residing in Llansamlet, Swansea, maintains the sex was consensual and denies the rape charge. Defense counsel questioned whether the earlier remarks affected the victim’s perception of Cox.
