Nor'easter floods NYC neighborhoods, topples tree on children and creates surreal scenes
A second wave of a nor'easter flooded parts of New York City, knocked down a tree that injured two children and two women, and produced odd sights like fish in driveways.
The nor'easter's second surge drenched Queens, Brooklyn and Long Island, prompting power outages for nearly 40,000 customers, including almost 20,000 in Suffolk County. Rainfall topped 3.16 inches in Howard Beach, and wind gusts reached 56 mph at JFK Airport. A tree collapsed in Kelly Park Playground, injuring a boy, a girl, a 40-year-old woman and a 41-year-old woman, all with minor wounds.
Unusual images emerged as fish, horseshoe crabs and debris flooded streets, and a seagull attempted to catch the fish. A missing swimmer off Fire Island later reported himself safe. In New Jersey, portable toilets rolled across a MetLife Stadium parking lot, adding to the oddities of the storm.
