Nordic diesel prices surge as Middle East war and Ukrainian strikes curb Russian output
Diesel prices across Sweden, Denmark, Norway and Finland are climbing sharply as the war in Iran and Ukrainian attacks on Russian refineries tighten global supply.
Across the Nordic region diesel costs are rising sharply, with Swedish pumps approaching 24 kronor per litre after Circle K, OKQ8 and Preem lifted prices by 90 öre. Denmark lists diesel near 21 kronor, Norway’s fuel-tax relief expired on September 1, leaving diesel just over 29 kroner, and Finnish motorists face roughly €2.50 per litre. Premium diesel and 95-octane gasoline have also edged higher.
The surge is linked to the war in Iran and recent Ukrainian drone attacks that forced the shutdown of Rosneft-owned refineries in Syzran and Saratov, curbing Russian diesel output and extending its export ban through the end of September. European diesel futures have hit record premiums over Brent, further tightening supply. Swedish authorities note the risk is higher prices rather than shortages, given domestic refining capacity and reliance on North Sea oil. US President Donald Trump blamed Ukraine for the diesel disruptions during a recent interview.
