Nordic Nations Have Delivered Roughly $50 Billion to Ukraine Since 2022 Conflict

Ukraine’s foreign minister said the five Nordic countries have supplied about $50 billion in aid since the war began, and urged deeper cooperation on defense and sanctions.

During a joint press conference in Helsinki, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha announced that the five Nordic states have provided about $50 billion in assistance to Ukraine since the full-scale invasion began. He praised Finland, Norway, Denmark, Iceland and Sweden for their leadership and emphasized that Ukraine is not just a beneficiary but an active partner in European security. Sybiha referenced existing agreements with Finland and Norway on unmanned systems, urging their conversion into joint production lines.

He called for more PAC air-defense interceptors and urged continued support for the PURL initiative. The minister also said Ukraine has fulfilled its part of the FREYJA project aimed at countering ballistic missiles, and asked allies to step up sanctions against Russia’s war apparatus, including its shadow fleet. Norway’s recent pledge of 500 million kroner for energy aid was cited as an example of ongoing support.

Why it matters

The aid level underscores the Nordic bloc’s pivotal role in sustaining Ukraine’s defense and pressuring Russia.
