Reform UK’s inaugural police and crime commissioner for Norfolk, Colin Sutton, has scrapped a 2027 national theatre tour after facing backlash from constituents and political figures. The itinerary, posted by promoters, listed 130 performances over eleven months, with Sutton arguing he would be "incommunicado" for only two hours per show and that the engagements would not interfere with his duties. Labour MP Ben Goldsborough criticized the plan, suggesting a PCC cannot effectively police a county while travelling.
During a North Norfolk District Council scrutiny meeting, Sutton cited the negative reaction from residents as the reason for his withdrawal, stressing his commitment to the role. Sutton, who led the investigation that secured the conviction of serial killer Levi Bellfield, earns a salary of £79,052. The move occurs ahead of the government's 2025 announcement to eliminate the PCC position by the 2028 elections to save at least £100 million.
