North Carolina Attorney General Jeff Jackson scores multiple court wins against Trump

North Carolina AG Jeff Jackson says his lawsuits against President Donald Trump are based on a three-point legal test, and his office has secured ten victories out of 25 cases filed.

Jeff Jackson, the Democratic attorney general of North Carolina, said his office follows a strict checklist—illegal conduct, state injury, and provable evidence—before filing any suit, rejecting claims of partisanship. Using that framework, his team has filed 25 actions against President Donald Trump and already won ten, including cases that halted FEMA’s $200 million disaster grant cancellation, stopped the shutdown of AmeriCorps funding, and blocked a $165 million Education Department cut.

Jackson also played a role in restoring SNAP benefits during the longest federal shutdown, after courts ruled that contingency funds could cover the program. Republican senators have accused him of over-targeting the president, and a proposal to bar the AG from suing over executive orders failed to pass the state House. Despite the criticism, Jackson remains confident in his record, noting the president’s long streak of legal defeats. White House spokeswoman Lauren Bis dismissed the lower-court rulings as “lawless” and urged Democratic AGs to focus on state issues.

Why it matters

The lawsuits illustrate how state attorneys general can challenge federal policies and affect national programs.
