North Carolina resident wins second lottery prize, pledges money to local kids
A man from Salisbury, North Carolina, has won a $100,000 scratch-off prize just two years after a $2 million jackpot, and he intends to use the money to help underprivileged children.
Cristien Breton of Salisbury, North Carolina, secured a $100,000 cash prize from a recent scratch-off ticket, marking his second major lottery win within two years. His earlier jackpot of $2 million, won on a $20 ticket in August 2024, left him with $858,006 after taxes. The newest win netted roughly $72,000 after state and federal deductions.
Breton told WCNC he plans to direct the money toward programs that aid underprivileged children as the school year begins, noting his previous winnings helped his mother and inspired further giving. The Cash Payday game, run by the North Carolina Education Lottery, still has 56 of its $100,000 prizes unclaimed. Rowan County, Breton’s home area, received $7.7 million in lottery proceeds from the state in 2025.
