North Carolina State Trooper Indicted for Killing Sheriff’s Captain in Love-Triangle Shooting
Trooper Nekime Oxendine was charged with first-degree murder after a March 27 shooting that killed Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office Captain Adam Bean in Hope Mills.
A North Carolina state trooper, Nekime Oxendine, was indicted by a grand jury on first-degree murder charges for the March 27 killing of Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office Captain Adam Bean in Hope Mills. Bean, a 42-year veteran of the sheriff’s office, was discovered in the front yard of a house belonging to a woman who had dated both men at different times. Investigators uncovered text messages in which Oxendine repeatedly questioned the woman’s relationship with Bean and expressed jealousy.
On the day of the shooting, Bean went to the woman’s home despite her urging him not to, and found Oxendine’s truck parked outside. Oxendine allegedly exited the house with a firearm, fired a warning shot into the ground, then shot Bean multiple times, leading to his death. The woman attempted CPR while police arrived. Oxendine was placed on administrative leave and is being held without bond until his next hearing in November.
