North Korea announced a successful test of an enhanced hypersonic ballistic missile, described as a new-type weapon overseen by its leader.

South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff detected two short-range ballistic missiles launched from the Wonsan area, initially estimating their flight distances at roughly 450 km and 600 km. A monitor released by North Korea later displayed a longer flight trajectory, suggesting a range of over 900 km, which analysts believe was disclosed deliberately to highlight tracking challenges. The test was timed ahead of the United Nations General Assembly debate and a forthcoming US-China summit, indicating a strategic messaging component.
