North Korea to Install Vietnam War Soldier Monuments in Hanoi
North Korean officials unveiled a plaque for a new monument honoring DPRK soldiers who fought in the Vietnam War, with a ceremony at Hanoi's Military History Museum.
North Korean representatives held a ceremony on Friday at Hanoi's Vietnam Military History Museum to unveil the foundation plaque of a planned monument honoring DPRK soldiers who fought alongside Vietnamese forces during the Vietnam War. The inscription cites the establishment of diplomatic relations in January 1950 and notes North Korea's material and moral support during Vietnam's anti-U.S. struggle. Vice Defense Minister Ryo Chol-ung, Vietnamese Vice Defense Minister Nguyen Truong Thang, ambassador Ri Sung-guk and other defense officials attended the event.
The North Korean team also toured a memorial in Bac Ninh City, paying respects to Korean People's Army casualties with a wreath. This trip, which began on Sept. 22, comes amid a warming of bilateral ties, including recent letters between Kim Jong-un and President To Lam and reciprocal ministerial visits earlier in the year.
