North Yorkshire police arrest man after early-morning quad bike chase near Whitby
Police in North Yorkshire stopped a suspected stolen quad bike in a pre-dawn pursuit near Whitby and arrested a man in his 30s on multiple traffic offences.
Around 4.15 am on Thursday, North Yorkshire Police received a report that a red quad bike had been taken near Whitby. A member of the public tracked the bike and relayed its movements to the control room, enabling Specialist Operations officers to locate it on the A171. The rider ignored flashing lights and the vehicle was pursued along several rural roads, including Scaling Dam, Roxby Low Moor and Hinderwell Lane.
During the chase the suspect dropped a mobile phone, which officers later recovered. The pursuit ended near the Port Mulgrave turn-off, where a man in his 30s from the Cleveland area was detained. He was charged with theft of a motor vehicle, driving without insurance, failing to stop for police and other offences, and was remanded in custody after appearing in court on Friday.
