Northern Ireland's economy hits record output, outpacing both Ireland and the UK
Government data show that Northern Ireland’s economic output reached a historic high, growing faster than the Republic of Ireland and the United Kingdom.
According to the NI Statistics and Research Agency, Northern Ireland’s economic output climbed to a new peak in the most recent quarter, outstripping the growth recorded in the Republic of Ireland and the United Kingdom. The surge was led by the services sector, notably hospitality, and by manufacturing activity, both of which posted notable increases. The public sector added further momentum, while construction experienced a quarterly decline after three quarters of expansion, though it remains historically high and has risen over the year.
Private-sector output grew both quarterly and annually, and the public sector also posted solid gains. The agency highlighted that the region’s output now sits well above the level seen before the Covid-19 pandemic, marking sustained recovery since the sharp downturn in 2020.
Why it matters
The record growth signals a strong economic rebound for Northern Ireland, influencing jobs, investment and fiscal policy.
