Northern Samar Hospital Overcrowded, Stops New Admissions Amid Bed Shortage
The Northern Samar Provincial Hospital in Catarman reported 363 patients, far exceeding its 150-bed limit, and has halted further admissions.
A public advisory issued on Oct. 24 revealed that the Northern Samar Provincial Hospital was caring for 363 inpatients, more than double its authorized capacity of 150 beds. Although 302 beds remained physically available, the facility declared it could not accept additional patients. The hospital urged those needing care to seek other hospitals with open capacity. The Department of Health sets the 150-bed limit for the facility.
Why it matters
Overcrowding limits access to care for residents of Northern Samar and signals broader strain on regional health services.
