Norway boosts funding for international vaccine preparedness partnership

Norway disclosed that it will increase its financial input to the global vaccine and preparedness network Cepi, as part of a broader effort to strengthen pandemic defenses. Foreign Ministry officials explained that the additional resources are intended to expand research and development of novel vaccines. Development Minister Åsmund Aukrust emphasized that diseases do not respect borders, making international collaboration essential for rapid vaccine creation and other countermeasures.

The contribution is earmarked for Cepi’s upcoming strategic cycle, running from 2027 through 2031. A central objective of this plan is the so-called “100-day goal,” which seeks to have safe, effective vaccines ready within 100 days after a new virus is identified.
