Norway pledges financial support to boost Ukraine's EU accession reforms

Norway's cabinet has decided to provide financial resources through the European Union's civilian assistance mechanism for Ukraine. The aid aims to sustain essential services for the Ukrainian population while supporting key reforms in anti-corruption measures and the energy sector, both considered vital for future EU accession. Funds will only be released after Ukrainian authorities demonstrate compliance with the stipulated reform requirements.

This contribution marks Norway as the inaugural non-EU nation to fund the Ukraine mechanism. The decision was disclosed on the same day Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide met EU enlargement commissioner Marta Kos, with both Ukraine's EU aspirations and broader enlargement plans featuring prominently in their discussions. Other candidate countries such as Moldova, Montenegro, and Albania remain in line for future EU membership.
