Norway's oil and gas projects see cost hikes, Valhall-Fenris leads with nearly 15 billion increase

The government reports that several offshore oil and gas developments have become more expensive, with Valhall-Fenris, Yggdrasil and Snøhvit Future showing the biggest rises.

Each year the Norwegian government revises the budget for offshore oil and gas ventures, and the latest figures reveal notable cost escalations. Valhall-Fenris has jumped by roughly 14.9 billion to a total of 93.4 billion, driven by extra drilling, exchange-rate shifts and a tighter market. Yggdrasil’s estimate rose by 11.5 billion to 195 billion after incorporating the Øst Frigg find and optimizing wells, while Snøhvit Future increased by 9.2 billion to 26.5 billion because of added complexity and operational hurdles.

A few projects, like Oseberg OGP, were modestly reduced by about 600 million. The ministry notes that supply-chain pressures and higher steel prices have also contributed to the upward trend, even as oil and gas revenues remain strong.

Why it matters
