Norway urges households to stock essential supplies for emergencies
The Norwegian Directorate for Civil Protection advises residents to keep a seven-day emergency kit covering water, food, heating and medical items.
The Norwegian Directorate for Civil Protection (DSB) has released detailed recommendations for citizens to build a seven-day emergency reserve. Prompted by heightened security worries, potential sabotage of critical infrastructure and frequent winter power cuts, the agency stresses the need for water, long-shelf-life food, heating equipment and essential medicines. Additional supplies include a wood, gas or kerosene stove, a battery-operated DAB radio, flashlights, warm blankets, and basic hygiene products.
The checklist also advises keeping cash in small denominations, a paper list of emergency contacts, and iodine tablets for nuclear scenarios if applicable. The full guide, translated into English and 31 other languages, can be downloaded from the DSB website, and residents are encouraged to coordinate with neighbours and building managers where appropriate.
