Norwegian Film Festival Honors McConaughey Drama Amid King Harald Health Concerns
The 54th Haugesund International Film Festival awarded the Ray of Sunshine prize to the Matthew McConaughey film “The Rivals of Amziah King,” while other titles also earned audience and critics’ honors.
During the 54th Norwegian International Film Festival in Haugesund, the Matthew McConaughey-led feature “The Rivals of Amziah King” captured the Ray of Sunshine Award, a prize for the most uplifting film, with jurors highlighting its humor, emotional depth and inventive editing. Itonje Søimer Guttormsen’s “Butterfly,” starring Renate Reinsve, earned the Norwegian Critics’ Award for its visual flair and nuanced performances.
Anthony Maras’s World War II picture “Pressure,” featuring Brendan Fraser and Adrew Scott, secured the Audience Award for its tense portrayal of Eisenhower’s planning of the Normandy landings. The event was marked by reports of King Harald’s declining health, and the festival showcased the replica Viking ship Draken Harald Hårfagre, which recently hosted a visit from director Christopher Nolan. The ship’s captain Björn Ahlander recounted the crew’s involvement in filming “The Odyssey” and the growing volunteer interest. Additional recognitions included the Best Pitch Award for “Grandmonster,” a zombie-infused comedy-horror project slated for the Nordic Co-Production Market.
