Norwegian government issues new screen-time guidance warning TikTok, YouTube, Snapchat
The Norwegian government released updated recommendations on children's screen use, highlighting risks associated with TikTok, YouTube and Snapchat.
The Norwegian cabinet unveiled a set of new recommendations governing screen use for children and adolescents, stressing particular dangers linked to TikTok, YouTube and Snapchat. Building on the health directorate's January guidelines, the advice now addresses algorithmic influence, social-media exposure and digital safety concerns such as addictive design, exposure to harmful material, recruitment for crime and contact hazards.
Jan Christian Vestre, the health and care minister, emphasized that screen habits affect sleep, health, play and social interaction, and that the updated guidance is meant to be clear and accessible for busy families. The recommendations were produced in cooperation with Medietilsynet, the Barne-, ungdoms- og familiedirektoratet, Helsedirektoratet and the Utdanningsdirektoratet. Officials intend the measures to support parents in making prudent digital-media decisions for their children.
