Norwegian mountain biker Knut Røhme tests positive for banned asthma medication

Norwegian mountain biker Knut Røhme, a participant in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, disclosed that a doping analysis revealed traces of terbutaline, a substance banned in sport. He attributes the finding to a medical error, stating that his physician inadvertently prescribed the asthma drug instead of his usual medication. Røhme submitted a joint statement with the Norwegian Cycling Federation, explaining the mistake occurred during a prescription renewal request through Helsenorge.
He emphasized his long-term support for clean sport and has sent his explanation to the International Testing Agency (ITA). The ITA is now handling the case, and Røhme has agreed to a temporary ban from all sporting events.
