Norwegian oil and gas workers end month-long strike after mediated wage deal
A strike by offshore oil and gas staff in Norway concluded on Tuesday following forced mediation, with a new pay agreement reached.
After roughly a month of industrial action, the strike by oil and gas employees on land in Norway ended on Tuesday morning. The walkout, which affected staff at facilities operated by Equinor at Mongstad, Hammerfest, Tjeldbergodden, Kollsnes and Kårstø, was resolved after 17 hours of compulsory mediation. Union leader Gard Hofsvang expressed satisfaction with the result, thanking members for their solidarity.
Employer representative Laust K. Poulsen highlighted the role of the mediator in achieving the settlement. The agreement provides a collective hourly wage supplement of 10.50 kroner starting June 1, raises minimum wage levels, and increases the apprenticeship allowance by 1.50 kroner per hour. Both parties described the deal as a strong win for the workers.
Why it matters
The settlement ends a disruptive strike and secures higher wages for thousands of Norwegian oil and gas workers.
