Norwegian Parliament conducts one-day emergency relocation drill to Drammen
The Storting practiced moving its proceedings to Drammen for a day to test continuity if the Oslo building becomes unusable.
The Norwegian parliament staged a one-day relocation drill on Tuesday, moving its activities to Drammen to test how it would operate if the Oslo parliament building were unavailable. Around 40 elected representatives participated, with President Masud Gharahkhani joining the exercise himself. Storting director Kyrre Grimstad explained that the scenario is designed to uncover weaknesses and bolster the institution's emergency readiness.
While the parliamentary drill is underway, the Home Guard (Heimevernet) is conducting a separate large-scale exercise in Oslo that includes about 5,000 troops. Officials emphasized that the drills are precautionary and hope they will never be needed in practice.
