Norwegian to cut 123 jobs at Copenhagen Airport amid schedule changes

Norwegian announced it will dismiss 123 staff members at Copenhagen Airport, affecting pilots and cabin crew as it reshapes its summer-winter flight schedule.

Norwegian has decided to terminate the employment of 123 workers at Copenhagen Airport, a move announced after talks with the relevant unions concluded. The cuts will affect 53 pilots and 70 cabin crew members and will be implemented in multiple phases, with the majority leaving in late January and the rest slated for dismissal ten months afterward. The airline explained that the reduction reflects a large disparity in passenger volumes between the summer peak, which requires 16 aircraft, and the winter period, which only needs 10.

While the total number of summer departures from Copenhagen will remain unchanged, several of those flights will be operated by planes stationed in Spain. Previously, industry reports had warned that up to 125 jobs could be at risk as Norwegian plans to lower its Copenhagen fleet from 16 to 14 aircraft for the summer season.

Why it matters

The layoffs affect hundreds of aviation workers and signal a shift in Norwegian's operational strategy at a major European hub.
