Norwegian weapons firms boost security, add bodyguards amid rising Russian threats
Kongsberggruppen and other Norwegian defence companies are deploying personal security teams for executives as they face heightened Russian-linked threats.
Amid an escalating threat environment attributed to Russian actors, Norway's largest arms manufacturer, Kongsberggruppen, has begun assigning bodyguards to its senior leadership. The decision comes after sources reported physical incidents at defence sites, such as foreign nationals loitering near plants, drone observations and regular cyber attacks. Thorstein Korsvold of Nammo confirmed parallel security upgrades but declined to detail them.
Military intelligence chief Lars S. Lervik explained that Russia aims to undermine Western support for Ukraine through sabotage, targeting the European defence industry. PST senior adviser Eirik Veum noted that while no sabotage has yet been recorded in Norway, firms involved in aid to Ukraine remain especially vulnerable. The industry’s response reflects growing concern over Russian-backed hostile actions across Europe.
