Nothing OS 5.0 adds adaptive colors, Glyph app and deeper home screen tweaks
Nothing's latest OS 5.0 update introduces wallpaper-derived color tints, a new Glyph Interface app and expanded customization for supported phones.
Nothing OS 5.0, built on Android 17, launches in open beta on August 26, starting with the Nothing Phone 3 and eventually expanding to most recent Nothing devices, but it will not be available for Phone 1, Phone 2 or CMF Phone 1. The update adds adaptive color support, enabling app icons and widgets to adopt tints drawn from the active wallpaper, while preserving the platform's signature monochrome aesthetic. A new Glyph Interface app consolidates all lighting controls for phones equipped with the glyph back-light.
Home screen customization is broadened with new lock-screen clock designs, an "Away Time" widget that logs phone-free periods, a Collector widget for turning images into icons, and the ability to move multiple icons simultaneously. System-wide refinements include animated status-bar icons, single-tap Bluetooth toggles in Quick Settings, enhanced quick-share, Android's Noto 3D emojis, expanded dark-theme support, and updates to Essential AI such as cleaner voice transcriptions and on-device app building capabilities.
Why it matters
The update refreshes the user experience on newer Nothing phones with more visual personalization and functional tweaks.
