The Supreme Court of Nova Scotia has sanctioned an $18,075,000 settlement to resolve a class-action suit stemming from the 2015 crash landing of Air Canada Flight 624 in Halifax.
A Nova Scotia Supreme Court ruling has finalized an $18,075,000 settlement for the class-action case linked to Air Canada Flight 624’s crash landing at Halifax Stanfield International Airport in March 2015. The payout, primarily funded by Air Canada (over $15 million), also includes $2 million from Nav Canada and $1 million from the Halifax International Airport Authority, and it expressly avoids any liability finding.
The accident injured 25 of the 133 occupants when the aircraft struck power lines and landed short of the runway during a snowstorm. Compensation will vary according to each passenger’s injuries, which include bruises, joint damage and psychological trauma. The settlement also allocates more than $5 million for legal fees and nearly $900,000 for expert disbursements. The case involved a prolonged legal battle, including a Supreme Court of Canada appeal to obtain the cockpit voice recorder, before the parties reached this resolution.
