Nova Scotia judge throws out sexual assault case against Mike Smith

A Nova Scotia judge dismissed the sexual assault trial of Mike Smith after the Crown presented no evidence.

In Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, Judge Jill Hartlen dismissed a sexual assault proceeding against actor Mike Smith after the Crown failed to present any evidence. The defence requested dismissal, and the judge granted it, ending the three-day trial that was set to begin. The unnamed complainant, barred from identification, said she chose not to testify to safeguard her mental health, highlighting the emotional strain of testifying in sexual assault cases.

Smith, 54, was originally charged in October 2025 for an alleged assault that occurred on December 30, 2017. He has maintained a not-guilty plea since February. Following the court’s decision, Trailer Park Boys Incorporated announced that Smith will resume his duties with the company.
