Nova Scotia teacher arrested on multiple assault and sexual offence charges
A 53-year-old teacher in Pictou County has been charged with several assault-related offences after alleged attacks on students at a local school.
Pictou County District RCMP received a complaint on September 10 that a teacher had assaulted a student at Dr. W.A. MacLeod Consolidated School in Riverton. The suspect, Matthew Donahoe, 53, of Bible Hill, was arrested on September 23 and charged with multiple offences, including four counts of assault, two counts of assault by choking, assault with a weapon, sexual assault, sexual interference and administering a noxious thing.
Police have identified additional victims of similar assaults during one outlet school year and believe further victims may exist. The Chignecto Central Regional Centre for Education confirmed Donahoe has been placed on leave and is offering support services to the school community. Const.
Daniel Ronaghan emphasized a trauma-informed approach, urging anyone with information to contact investigators. The case is set for a hearing in Pictou Provincial Court.
