Novartis agreed to license an mRNA autoimmune drug from Chinese biotech Abogen Biosciences in a deal worth up to $7.8 billion.

The Swiss drugmaker will pay $575 million upfront for the candidate ABO2203 and could owe another $7.2 billion as milestones are achieved. The agreement grants Novartis global development and commercialization rights, while Abogen retains certain Chinese market rights. This partnership reflects growing interest in mRNA platforms beyond vaccines.
